Status and supervision
Our office is entered as an insurance broker in the register of insurance and ancillary insurance intermediaries kept by the Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA), under number 0733 945 352. That register is divided into categories, and “insurance brokers” is ours.
The FSMA has its seat at rue du Congrès 12-14, 1000 Brussels. The register can be consulted at fsma.be, where you can search by name or by company number.
The entry and the conditions for keeping it are set out in part 6 of the Act of 4 April 2014 on insurance. The FSMA's own supervision rests on the Act of 2 August 2002 on the supervision of the financial sector and financial services.
What our service consists of
Our work consists in advising on insurance contracts, proposing or offering them, carrying out the preparatory work for concluding them, concluding them, and assisting with their management and performance.
For that service the office is paid by commission, that is to say a remuneration included in the insurance premium. It may in addition receive from a given insurance undertaking a remuneration tied to the portfolio. We will provide the detail on request.
Conflicts of interest
The office has drawn up a conflicts of interest policy, as article 283 of the Act of 4 April 2014 on insurance requires. A summary appears in our internal policies. Further information is available on request, on a durable medium.
Complaints
A complaint goes first to us, in writing. Anything we have not managed to settle together can then be put to the Insurance Ombudsman, square de Meeûs 35, 1000 Brussels. Telephone 02 547 58 71, email info@ombudsman-insurance.be, ombudsman-insurance.be. A complaint form is also available on that website. The Ombudsman publishes in French and Dutch only: a complaint in English will be accepted, but the exchange will be in one of those two languages.
That out-of-court procedure is the one referred to by article 281 of the Act of 4 April 2014 on insurance and by book XVI of the Code of Economic Law.
